Toby's Garden Festival at Powderham Castle

Toby's Garden Festival at Powderham Castle

As spring gathers pace, gardeners from across the South West make their way to Powderham Castle on the Exe estuary for Toby's Garden Festival. The setting is hard to beat: a medieval castle in an ancient deer park, with views across the water towards Topsham.

The festival is built around plants and the people who grow them. Specialist nurseries from the West Country and further afield come along, including growers with Chelsea medals to their name, so it is a great chance to find something unusual for your own borders. A programme of gardening talks covers a wide range of horticultural topics, and the talks are free to attend once you are in.

Not everyone in the party needs to be a keen gardener to enjoy it. There are arts and crafts stalls to browse, locally made street food, and free music and entertainment for families, so it works well as a spring day out for all ages. Powderham is around forty minutes from The Roost via the M5 and the A379, and the castle grounds are a lovely place to linger once the car boot is full of plants.

When: Friday 30 April – Saturday 1 May 2027
Where: Powderham Castle, Kenton, near Exeter, EX6 8JQ
